4/3/16 Sunday Sermon Notes

Easter Sunday we read scripture on the biblical account of Jesus' death and resurrection and this past Sunday our study was summed up by the title "He is Risen! Now What?"
Now we believe, we repent, and we worship, worship, worship.  When we are on our face in worship it puts us in our place, it exposes the true intimate relationship we have with a pure and holy God.

Here are the scripture references:

Psalm 95:1-7  (ESV)
1 Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! 2 Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! 3 For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. 4 In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. 5 The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. 6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker! 7 For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Today, if you hear his voice,

Mark 1:15  (ESV)
and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."

1 Chronicles 16:29  (ESV)
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before him! Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness;

Worship -
  • Genesis 22:5  (ESV)   Then Abraham said to his young men, "Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy will go over there and worship and come again to you."
  • Matthew 2:2  (ESV)   saying, "Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him."
  • Deuteronomy 6:4-5  (ESV)   4 "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
  • 2 Chronicles 7:3  (ESV)   When all the people of Israel saw the fire come down and the glory of the LORD on the temple, they bowed down with their faces to the ground on the pavement and worshiped and gave thanks to the LORD, saying, "For he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever."
  • Matthew 14:33  (ESV)   And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God."
  • John 9:35-38  (ESV)  35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him he said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?" 36 He answered, "And who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?" 37 Jesus said to him, "You have seen him, and it is he who is speaking to you." 38 He said, "Lord, I believe," and he worshiped him.

Obedience -
  • Romans 6:15-18  (ESV)  15 What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! 16 Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? 17 But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, 18 and, having been set free from sin, have come slaves of righteousness.

We also celebrated the Lord's Supper / Communion this past Sunday

Matthew 26:26-29  (ESV)
26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, "Take, eat; this is my body." 27 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, "Drink of it, all of you, 28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom."

Have a blessed week.
