6/14/15 Sunday's Verses

Well, Vacation Bible School has just two days left at our little church.  The kids are having so much fun learning Bible lessons, playing games, making crafts and eating the tastiest snacks.  I must admit that the adults are having a lot of fun too.  What a great bunch of kids we have coming each day.  It's such  blessing to get to know these little ones and to serve the Lord in this way.

If you have kids (kindergarten thru 6th grade) that would like to join in the fun, it's not too late, We still have two more days of fun planned for this week. Just come. VBS is from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm Thursday and Friday - with a closing ceremony at the end on Friday.

5/31/2015 Sunday Sermon Notes

Ahh...it's good to be back! Sorry it's been so long since our last post.  I don't know about you, but I just can't believe it's June already.  Another year seems to be flying by.

Last Sunday was filled with excellent teaching.  We started off the day with Dan leading Sunday School in our Bible study of Genesis chapters 20 - 22.  Pastor Randy was up next with our Sunday Morning Service. He started with the question: If the church is for believers, does that mean that the unsaved aren't welcome?  The answer is, of course, the unsaved are very welcome.  God's will is for all to be saved and we are to be the lights in a dark world showing people the way to Christ.  Pastor focused on some verses from the book of Romans and taught about what we believe as a church and the simple truths of salvation.  Here are some of the verses we studied:

 Romans 3:21-25 (ESV)
But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it  22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put  forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.

Romans 6:23 (ESV)
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 10:1-13 (ESV)

1 Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. 2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

Hebrews 11:1-6 (ESV)
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 For by it the people of old received their commendation. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible. 4 By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as  righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks. 5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. 12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

2/22/15 Sermon Notes

Last Sunday, we continued in our study of Romans 6.  Pastor spoke about the The matchless grace of God and the power of God to cover our sin with Christ's righteousness.

He also gave a list of things that we usually don't even recognize until we are saved (or until we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior). I don't think I caught all of them, but you'll get the general idea and probably even have some of your own that you could add to the list.

When we are saved we begin to recognize:

•   Our sinfulness & hopelessness because of our sin
•   There is one way, one truth, one life through Christ
•   Christ truly is the Son of God
•   We became a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17)
•   Jesus is Lord, my master, & my God (Like Paul - Damascus Road - Acts 22)
•   Our submission to God by our love for Him
•   We became dead to sin
•   Recognition to where I am in the big scope of eternity
•   Indwelt by the Holy Spirit of God
•   The fullness of the grace of God and His mercy
•   At salvation our sorrow is turned to joy
•   Maturity in Christ enlightens us to the truth in Gods Word

What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound?  2 By no means! So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand.  22 For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being,  23 but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members.  24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?  25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.

Romans 8:1-5  (ESV)
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.  2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.  3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,  4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.  5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.

As I type this, I'm reminded of the words in the song Grace Greater Than Our Sin:

 Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace,
Freely bestowed on all who believe!
You that are longing to see His face,
Will you this moment His grace receive?

Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that is greater than all our sin!

2/15/15 Sermon Notes

Late again! I hope I'm not starting to make a habit of this :(

Have I mentioned how much I appreciate Pastor Randy and Dan for praying for our missionaries and fellowshipping churches each Sunday?  If not, I should have, it's a precious thing to be able to openly pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ.  Thank you for bringing their needs before us.

I'm really enjoying this study in Romans - I hope you are too.  Last Sunday Pastor spoke more about God's grace and what should motivate us to be obedient to God.  He taught us about the similarities between the Jewish custom of ceremonial washing in the Mikveh and the Christian baptism.  We know that baptism does not save us, but is an outward symbol of an inward change in our hearts.  It's a public testimony that we are choosing to sin less.  Just as the Mikveh identified a Jew as one of God's people, the act of baptism identifies us with Christ.  It doesn't make us sinless but by God's grace we will sin less.

Where does your heart lie?
What do you continue to do that you know you shouldn't?
Who do you belong to?
What manner of life do you live?
Shouldn't the ultimate love of God motivate us to be obedient to Him?

2/1/15 Sermon Notes

Can you believe it's already February?  I'm not sure if  "Time Flies" but I'm pretty sure that I'm just not keeping up with it anymore.  At any rate, it is what it is.

I hope you all had a wonderful Sunday.  It was a rather busy day, but fun and relaxing too.  we had our regular church services followed by the Lord's supper, a delicious potluck, a meeting on some church policy and then home to watch the Superbowl with some fabulous people.  And hey, no matter which team you were rooting for, it really was a great game - even if the wrong team did win :)

Getting back on track, Pastor Randy taught about the boundless grace of God and also typology - as in Adam was a type of Christ.  Here are the verses Pastor taught from:

1 Timothy 1:12-17  (ESV)
I thank him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, appointing me to his service, 13 though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. Also, I thought I'd share these verses that we read every time we partake in the Lord's supper, or communion.  Our church celebrates the Lord's supper the first Sunday of every month.  It's such a blessing to be able to remember the Lord in this way.  It is a very personal time of acknowledging and remembering what the Lord has done to save us.  It's explained eloquently in the verses below. 

1 Corinthians 11:23-29   (ESV)
For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, "This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me." 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. 27 Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. 28 Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.

1/18/15 Sunday's Notes

Did you know that yesterday was "Sanctity of Human Life Sunday"?  I must say, I myself was unaware of it until Pastor Randy spoke about it.  He began our study of God's word with  Psalm 139 (referenced below).  What a beautiful passage explaining that God knows everything about us - from before we were born to who we are today to our future.  These verses show us the creative hand of God in every human beings existence. Please take some time to read through it and pray that hearts would be changed in our communities, our nation, our world to protect every precious human life. - not just on Sanctity of Human Life Sunday but everyday.


Once again my notes are rather long and sloppy, so I'll try to be brief and get to the scriptures. The rest of our study was based in Romans 5 (scroll down to my last post for the Romans 5:1-17verses).  Pastor taught that as extreme as God's wrath is, so is His grace that He pours out upon us abundantly.  We also learned about sins of ignorance, which are after all, still sin. This is all explained to us in Leviticus 5 and several other verses listed below.

Now, on to the verses (all are English Standard Version - ESV):

Psalm 139 
O LORD, you have searched me and known me! 2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. 3 You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. 4 Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, you know it altogether. 5 You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it. 7 Where shall I go from your Spirit? Leviticus 5
If anyone sins in that he hears a public adjuration to testify, and though he is a witness, whether he has seen or come to know the matter, yet does not speak, he shall bear his iniquity; 2 or if anyone touches an unclean thing, whether a carcass of an unclean wild animal or a carcass of unclean livestock or a carcass of unclean swarming things, and it is hidden from him and he has become unclean, and he realizes his guilt; 3 or if he touches human uncleanness, of whatever sort the uncleanness may be with which one becomes unclean, and it is hidden from him, when he comes to know it, and realizes his guilt; 4 or if anyone utters with his lips a rash oath to do evil or to do good, any sort of rash oath that people swear, and it is hidden from him, when he comes to know it, and he realizes his guilt in any of these; 5 when he realizes his guilt in any of these and confesses the sin he has committed, 6 he shall bring to the LORD as his compensation for the sin that he has committed, a female from the flock, a lamb or a goat, for a sin offering. He shall wring its head from its neck but shall not sever it completely, 9 and he shall sprinkle some of the blood of the sin offering on the side of the altar, while the rest of the blood shall be drained out at the base of the altar; it is a sin offering. 10 Then he shall offer the second for a burnt offering according to the rule. And the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering, and he shall be forgiven. 17 "If anyone sins, doing any of the things that by the LORD's commandments ought not to be done, though he did not know it, then realizes his guilt, he shall bear his iniquity. 18 He shall bring to the priest a ram without blemish out of the flock, or its equivalent for a guilt offering, and the priest shall make atonement for him for the mistake that he made unintentionally, and he shall be forgiven. 19 It is a guilt offering; he has indeed incurred guilt before the LORD.

Ezekiel 45:18-20 
Thus says the Lord GOD: In the first month, on the first day of the month, you shall take a bull from the herd without blemish, and purify the sanctuary. 19 The priest shall take some of the blood of the sin offering and put it on the doorposts of the temple, the four corners of the ledge of the altar, and the posts of the gate of the inner court. 20 You shall do the same on the seventh day of the month for anyone who has sinned through error or ignorance; so you shall make atonement for the temple.

Hebrews 10:26
For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins

Luke 23:34
And Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." And they cast lots to divide his garments. 

Pastor also read these verses from the song 'Amazing Grace' which I thought I'd share as well since they speak of recognizing our sin:

In closing, sometimes we have to just fall on our knees before God and say, "Show me, help me hear that still, quiet voice that convicts me of my sin" but don't stop there - confess your sin and get right with God. Recognize sin in your life and determine to be a child of God.
